well, this one turned out better. not much. but still better. and better is better right?
things i've learned from this project:
1) i need to take some lessons in hand sewing. probably the reason why i hate to hand sew is because i don't know how to do it properly. refer to the following picture for an example of this.
it's bad right? you won't hurt my feelings if you agree. i KNOW it's bad.
2) always, always, ALWAYS, follow directions the first go 'round. after that you can skip steps and make your own alterations/adjustments.
3) i want to learn to crochet. ok, so i really didn't learn that from this project. but i do want to learn how to crochet. that's what my sister's bff, cerise does (right?). and she's the bomb at it. i think i'll put this is on my new year's resolution list.

2008-12-29 failed sewing project
or you could call it:
a bad sewing job.
or
sewing gone wrong.
or
proof that not following the directions and thinking you know it all will sometimes get you into trouble.
whatever.
i like to call it a wonky guitar. so there.
it was made from a pattern than my cousin cassie let me borrow. hopefully when she attempts this pattern she will have better luck. i'm sure she will. for the most part, i'm pretty sure she's a rule follower and all.

*warning* these are scary.
these were made using a patten my aunt let me borrow. the pattern is circa 1975. my intentions were to complete them in time for christmas but that didn't happen. i got tired of them. and i hate hand sewing. the hair has to be cut and hand sewn on. i had already hand sewed on the legs. i was done. the kids like them. boston slept with his last night and has been dragging it around on the scooter this morning. both have asked that i put hair on there dollies though. i don't know.
i'm thinking about telling them they are aliens and aliens don't have hair.

we did christmas with my mother in law tonight. she came over tonight and we had a nice dinner and then opened some presents.
i made my mil some hunk pillows.
i think she liked them!
we also gave her a tea towel and a matching tea cozie. my gma hand embroidered them and my aunt jawana sewed them.
and my favorite thing of all this holiday season....are these awesome ornaments i made. knowing my mil like i do, before she opened this gift i told her there will be no crying or i'm taking them back. she sucked the tears back but it took every ounce of being she had to do so.

2008-12-24 merry christmas eve (but not for us)
hope everyone is having a wonder christmas eve today. bray is off snowboarding so we are celebrating christmas eve and christmas day saturday and sunday instead of today and tomorrow. btw, after talking to bray and my mom yesterday, i'm under the impression that bray is now a pro snowboarder. shredding up the mountain like nobody's business.
on to the sewing portion of the post.......
before the craft show, i was in such a hurry that i only showed a little snapshot of the craft fair clothes all together hanging by the mantel over the fireplace. they were cute and all but nothing compares to modeling them on a real person!
today, i discovered that i have a little girl that loves to model the clothes i make! she loved every last second of our "runway show" (as she called it).
and i do have to say that the clothes look so much cuter on a person as opposed to a hanger.
so without further ado, miss indyanna and two of my outfits.

i made these nap mats for the babies for school this year using this tutorial. you can even download a pdf of the tute from her site! i did make some alterations. instead of having a blanket that only attaches to one side--i made my babies nap mat more sleeping bag like. she suggests velcroing one whole side of the mat so that you can remove the foam when you need to wash it. i skipped that part and just sewed the sucker right on up. foam totally encased. guess what happened when i washed it? nothing major. i hung it to dry. the foam is shaped a little funny in some parts but with a nap or two it should all be back in place.
close up of the pillow section and the bias tape around the top.
all rolled up. buttons used to secure it. (please excuse the hair bunny)
in this photo you can see the strap used to carry them. i really like this type of strap for this project. it's made with fabric covered wide elastic.

woot! last day of school for the year! that means 2 weeks of sleeping in! YESSSS.
my dad mentioned on monday, that fleece was the "in" thing on the ski slopes for keeping warm. so, since he, mom, kay, and bray are leaving on sunday to go skiing i decided to whip him up a fleece pullover. never made one before. but i knew i had a pattern for one and i knew that i had fleece--so why not try?! i finished it up last night. i am not completely satisfied with the zipper part. i always do a pattern the way it says the first time. the next time i make alterations if needed. well to me this pattern needs some! i will def omit the zipper next time and the pockets. pockets because i'm lazy. zipper because fleece has plenty of give and it can easily be pulled over your head. no need for the zipper! anyways, if dad doesn't like it i will not be offended! it's not perfect and it was made fast. but the next time it will be awesome.
indyanna took the picture.....
i made neck warmers for the skiers out of the fleece scraps. indyanna also took a picture of me modeling one but it's way scary close up to the point where you can see the dirty pores in my face. so i'll wait and get another picture of one being worn by bray and post that.
and here's a picture of boston and indyanna just cause they wanted a picture taken of themselves. but it's all cool--cause i realized i made both of their bottoms.

2008-12-10 post craft fair
well, i had a blast at the craft fair and i broke even so i'm gonna say it was a success! the "hunk holders" sold like crazy! i'm so glad that i decided to do them--the morning that i was to leave for the fair! nothing like last minute projects. i even had bray working like crazy. he quilted all the "hunk holders". and did a mighty fast and fine job of it too, might i add. just don't tell him i told you. he earned some cha-ching for it so that made it worth his while. you know teenagers.....he has no clue that i snapped this picture. and i'm pretty sure he'd kill me if he knew i posted it! so keep it on the down low!
and here's a shot of our booth. we had a hodge podge of things in there.
